Q: Can you please tell our readers your real name as well as your stage name?
Peace! World!, my real name is Semu Walusimbi. I wanted to keep true to me so I go by SEMU , also known as The Bandit Don.
Q: Where are you from and Where are you based?
I am orginaly from East Africa. I am the only child out of 5 born in Kenya, my blood is traced back to Uganda. Salute to the Buganda Kingdom. I was raised in New York. Big up Dutchess County.
Q: At What age did you start making music?
I started doing music in the 1st grade after school with my childhood friend Patrick. His uncle had instruments and a studio in the basement, we would record popular R&B songs and give it to girls we liked. Haaa! Good times. I wrote my first song maybe at 15
Q: what genre would you consider yourself?
I am a hybrid artist. I represent a myriad of genres. I make forward contemporary music and always push to make innovative records, no 2 records of mine are alike. My intention is to add my signature sound to progress the art of music. Sometimes i piss off the engineers because they are used to the conventional type of music. Haaa! I like to keep ‘em guessing
Q: Tell us about your latest track or Video ( what is it all about)–Please explain the concept or message
My latest record “Strangers” is a follow up to my Coast to coast award winning record “Pull Up” that has a cool million listens on SoundCloud. my team and I aimed to top that song and video. I was afforded a great opportunity thank God to work with 2 directors; JAZ & Panoramic Films. We recruited the talented artist ANCIENT as well as Broadway performer Shoko Tamai. The song is about lovers who struggle with personal vices that effect the health of a relationship. I took a past relationship to paint the picture and make the sentiment more intimate.
Q: Who wrote it and what was the inspiration behind it
I found the beat from Producer “Beneficial” on instagram. He makes a new production every day and I was fortunate to get it before someone else got it. I wrote and put together the record that same week. I loved the energy and unique production.
Q: If you were given a chance, which Artist would you love to perform with?
Hmm nice question, I would have to go with.well they passed away…soo you know what I would go with Lady Gaga, she is a very eccentric artist and reinvents herself every record just like the ßandit. SEMU featuring Lady Gaga, thats dope!! Shout out to the ßandita, Lady Gaga!!
