Hip Hop In 2017, Is It Still All About The Money, Girls And Drugs?

He is all the way from Alpine Texas, started making music at age 15.  He is currently based in San Angelo and just released an awesome new track entitled “Rockstar Living” that will most definitely will be trending very soon.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy this exclusive interview from the one and only Sammy Floss.

Q: Where are you from and Where were you based?
I am from Alpine Tx. A  small town near the Big Bend National Park. Alpine is beautiful from the mountains to the people. Being raised from such a small area, I was scared it could affect my career. Friends and family always told me, “Just be yourself. Don’t worry about what others may think of you.Everyones from somewhere.”I am based in San Angelo. 3 ½ hours down the road from home.Angelo State University brought me here, and I cannot wait to see the opportunities it will open for me. Oh and this ones for the class of 2016! #GoBucks #FightinBucks

Q: At What age did you start making music?
I started making music when I was 16. The first song I wrote was when I was 15. It was a remix over Kanye’s “Get Em High”. I showed it to my friend Colton Foster, and he encouraged me to keep with it. When I was 16 I found out I could freestyle well, that’s when I began to take my music more serious. It was like a dream waiting to be woken too.It had been hidden in plain sight. My junior year I bought a mic and Senior year I bought a macbook(still high school). The first one got stolen in San Antonio while we were eating at Cheddars, and my Brother in Law, Justin Gonzales, helped me get a new one that same day. Music became more than just lyrics, vocals, and beats. It became an antidote for depression, and most Importantly a Lifestyle.

Q: What genre of music do you love? Or what genre would you consider yourself?
I would consider Hip-Hop Myself. I love the genre from the lyrical aspect, to the party aspect. Growing up in a small town, a lot of my friends usually listened to country and pop music. I’ve been bumping hip-hop since I first heard Afroman in 03. “Walk It Out” is another one.My Sister,Carizamae Gonzales, and brother,Carlos Mendoza III, kept me up to date with the hits.I can thank them for opening my ear to the artists they listened to. I consider Hip-Hop to be myself because of the different aspects with the genre. I cant handle when things are the same for too long. That’s when things get boring. A little change to keep me sane. Anyhow, Hip-Hop has always caught my ear. I love working for that song that everyones going to enjoy.

Q: Tell us about your latest track or Video ( what is it all about)–Please explain the concept or message behind it.
My latest track released August 1st, Titled “Rockstar Living”, follows my first track “Better Days”. The concept is thrilling. I just want everyone to have a good time. The message is to enjoy partying. I don’t believe in corruption so don’t take the drug references too harsh. There is a fine balance and time to do these things. Too much of anything is bad for you, don’t forget there’s more to life than getting wasted on the weekend. I admit to partying and doing the things I talk about in my music, but God, and Family always come first. Most of the song is a story, the other is me shouting out some of my favorite brands. I was at my friend Ivan’s house when I first began writing to the instrumental El Neva had produced. The first verse just came to me. I started writing about all the other matters I had lived and  experienced. The other 2 verses came with time. In all about a month of living for a great song! #RockStarLiving

Q: Who wrote the lyrics? who made the beats? Who made the video?(if any) and finally who produced the song?
I wrote all the lyrics, recorded all the vocals and voiced the ad-libs. El Neva Beats produced the instrumental, and the song was recorded in Gary Laney’s Studio in San Angelo, Tx. Gary also mixed and mastered the song for me, as well as adding some effects(echoes, reverb, compressors, etc). The first time I recorded the song I nailed the choruses and the first verse. Over a couple more hour sessions, the song finally came together and began sounding the way I intended it too.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from a lot. From the clothes I buy, to the games I play, to the TV Shows/Movies I watch, and most importantly from the life I live. I usually listen to the first 10 seconds of a beat, write my first line then build up line by line. Other times I just freestyle and it comes out the way I like. It all depends on what’s going on around me. A clear mind is usually my preference, but going through something emotional also helps. I enjoy designer clothes such as Off-White, Fear of God, Supreme, A Bathing Ape,and Saint Laurent, but I also enjoy Pacsun,Forever 21, Fashion Nova, and H&M. I guess I got some taste for every brand. Some of my favorite movies are The Breakfast Club, the Outsiders, The Mission Impossible series, and Harry Potter. Friday will always be a favorite. I watch them every christmas. As far as Tv shows go, I enjoy Stranger Things, Rick and Morty, One Punch Man, Breaking Bad, and Dragon Ball Super. Anything with a good setting can usually keep me attentive. Dragon Ball Z is my childhood show. When it comes to games, I love me an RPG. The Jak and Daxter Collection will always be an all time favorite. I’ve been playing Dragonball Fighters, Far Cry 5, and Jak-X here lately. I usually throw on a playlist and game until I think of something to write about. After that I may watch  a movie, hang with friends, or go work out.

Q: If you were given a chance, which Artist would you love to perform with?
If given the chance, I would love to perform with Drake. Been a fan since I heard “I Get Paper” with Kevin Cossom. My favorite album by him is “Nothing Was The Same”, favorite track is “All Me”. It’s so hard to choose one artist. Others I would like to perform for would be Wiz Khalifa, G-Eazy, Logic, Lil Wayne, and J. Cole.
