Lynn Phipps started playing while in college with a couple of her guitarist friends doing blue grass. During the early days, she played a little bit of rock and a little bit of punk. Afterwards, she decided punk was not for her.
Her guitarist song writing partner and a native of Austin-Texas, Joseef de Leon belonged to a band called Indi-Pigeon. Joseef de Leon focuses on blues while Lynn Phipps writes songs based on emotional depression. She plays traditional heart felt music in a time when music was honest. Fans of the carter family, Mumford and Sons are drawn to her abilities to create harmonies that are familiar without hitch.
Lynn and Joe gave topafricmusicvideo.com an exclusive interview and here it is below:
Can You please tell our readers a bit more about Lynn Phipps Music?
A: We’re a bluegrass duo based out of Amarillo, TX. Our duo consists of me, Lynn, and a fabulous guitarist named Joe de Leon. I plan on keeping him a while for sure.
Q: Where did Lynn Phipps Music originate?
A: It came out of a sort of chance meeting between Joe and I back in December, 2016. We met at a coffee shop in New Mexico, and we found we had a similar interest in music. I insisted he come with me for a burger, and the rest is history.
Q: At What age did you start making music?
A: I started seriously making music around 15. Joe started about 17, just coming out of high school. It’s been an ongoing thing in both our lives.
Q: Why Bluegrass?
A: Because all the old rock stars get into it eventually, and we figured we’d save ourselves the trouble.
Q: Tell us about your latest track ( what is it all about)
A: Joe’s gonna have to tell you about that.
Mean Old World’s our latest track, and definitely one of our favorites so far. It’s a sad song, about the hardships of living poor and losing family.
Q: Who wrote it? And where can the fans get it?
A: As you probably figured, Joe wrote that one. Fans can find it and purchase it for $1 on Bandcamp.com and Soundcloud. Just look up Lynn Phipps Music on either platform and we’ll come right up.
Q: Where do you get your musical inspiration?
A: From all over, honestly. Could be anything, a line, something somebody said. A particularly striking image that I see. Joe.
Q: What inspired you to write this new track
A: Funny enough, it’s written about a certain character’s death in the Star Wars franchise being spoiled for Joe. But don’t tell nobody, ok?
Q: If you were given a chance, which Artist would you love to perform with?
A: Dave Rawlings, at a rest stop in rural Kansas.
Q: Where can your fans find you? List all your social media links
A: Fans can find us all over the various social media outlets. Just look up Lynn Phipps Music on Facebook, Instagram, twitter, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and Youtube.
Thanks for having us, folks.
