Q: Can you please tell our readers your real name as well as your stage name?
A: My name is Brian H Newman aka Lokye aka wavyspice
Q: Where are you from and Where were you based?
A: I’m originally from NYC upper east side Neighborhood called Yorkvill. I currently live in Detroit where the rent is low and the space is vast. I have been In Detroit 10 years now and I’ve seen so much changes.
Q: At What age did you start making music?
A: I started making music when I started getting high at around 15. I didn’t get very serious until about 2012, 2013 which is when I began to do shows regularly and focused more on my delivery and the content and meaning of what I was trying to say.
Q: What genre of music do you love? Or what genre would you consider yourself?
(e.g- Rock? Blues? Hip-Hop? RnB?)
A: I make very real music to myself and for the Listeners, the story is very onnist, the sound is relaxing. I call it Abstract hip hop, surrealist Music. Music that plays on dreams and obscure stories.
I love golden age hip hop. Nas, Biggie, 2pac, Mo’s def, fugues, big L, red hot chilly peppers, the Beatles, I love it all. .
Q: Tell us about your latest track or Video ( what is it all about)–Please explain the concept or message behind it:
A: My Latest Video is Color Coated. This Album has been first dropped with a visual for the whole project. This visual takes place after a WE!RDOZ Bday at the strip club. I came home and got to painting. Also the album is about exploration, mixing fun with knowledge.
Q: Who wrote it?
A:. I wrote this piece of work and Dusty Fingerz made most of the beats. It was also a pleasure to work with PZA and Eddie Logix. Their production on PZA skirt and all or nothing did a lot for the tape.
Q: What inspired you to write this new track
A Since my last album I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go. I’m a visual artist and I consider everything I do as art. I wanted to figure out how to translate that better while still having fun and not losing authenticity. Took a while of soaking in inspiration from all over. A big inspiration happened in summer 2018 in LA. All I can say is life is crazy.
Q: Where do you get your musical inspiration?
A: My inspiration to create work comes from the greats. Queen, the Beatles, Michal Jackson, as well as painters like Jackson Polic or Vincent Van Gogh
Q: If you were given a chance, which Artist would you love to perform with?
A: If I had a chance to perform with anyone hmmm I would do under the bridge with Red hot chilly peppers that would be insane if I got to sing it with them. Or under pressure with queen and David Bowie
