The lyrics

The lyrics of Rosé’s inspiring song “On the Ground” are about her time under the spotlight and how she found her true inner strength. As she sings, Rosé reflects on her days as a trainee. She knows that after achieving unfathomable heights of success, all she’s ever needed is right beside her, “I worked my whole life/ Just to get high, just to realize/ Everything I need is on the ground.”

During a segment on YouTube’s RELEASED, the singer-songwriter discussed the song’s inspiration when she said “Basically the song is kind of about looking for answers in life for a purpose in life, and I feel like people especially these days, can relate to it, sometimes when you’re always kind of on that roll, you kind of forget to take care of what actually matters to you most, and it’s just a song that says everything we need is already within us. There’s no need to go out and look for it.

Rosé also told reporters at her online press conference that she did some “semi-rapping” on the track as she prepared to reflect on her observations from life at the top. Rosé appears primarily in one line in the post-chorus – a coolly voiced “Nah, but they don’t hear me though”. Lyrically, “On the Ground” hit song is made up of two verses, a pre-chorus, chorus, post-chorus, bridge, and an outro. The lyrics of the song can be found below.

[First verse]

My life’s been magic, seems fantastic

I used to have a hole in the wall with a mattress

Funny when you want it, suddenly you have it

You find out that your gold’s just plastic

[Pre-Chorus]

Every day, every night

I’ve been thinkin’ back on you and I

Every day, every night

[Chorus]

I worked my whole life

Just to get right, just to be like

“Look at me, I’m never comin’ down”

I worked my whole life

Just to get high, just to realise

Everything I need is on the

Everything I need is on the ground

[Post-Chorus]

On the ground

Everything I need is on the ground

Nah, but they don’t hear me though

(Yeah, what goes up must come down)

Nah, but they don’t hear me though

(You’re runnin’ out of time)

[second verse]

My world’s been hectic, seems electric

But I’ve been wakin’ up with your voice in my head

And I’m tryna send a message and let you know

That every single minute I’m without you, I regret it

[Pre-Chorus]

Every day, every night

I’ve been thinkin’ back on you and I

Every day, every night

[Chorus]

I worked my whole life

Just to get right, just to be like

“Look at me, I’m never comin’ down”

I worked my whole life

Just to get high, just to realise

Everything I need is on the

Everything I need is on the ground

[Post-Chorus]

On the ground

Everything I need is on the ground

Nah, but they don’t hear me though

(Yeah, what goes up must come down)

Nah, but they don’t hear me though

(You’re runnin’ out of time)

[Bridge]

I’m way up in the clouds

And they say I’ve made it now

But I figured it out

Everything I need is on the ground (Yeah, yeah)

Just drove by your house (Just drove by your house)

So far from you now (So far from you now)

But I figured it out

Everything I need is on the

Everything I need is on the ground

[Outro]

On the ground

Everything I need is on the ground

Nah, but they don’t hear me though

On the ground

Nah, but they don’t hear me though

Everything I need is on the ground

The music video of the song is made up of contrasting scenes of a mansion and an empty street to illustrate her growth path.  The Artist

Roseanne Park who is professionally known as Rosé is a South Korean-New Zealand singer and songwriter based in South-Korea. She was born on February 11, 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand to South Korean immigrant parents. At the early age of 7, Rosé and her family relocated to Melbourne, Australia. As a toddler, she learned how to play the guitar and piano and performed in church choirs.

In 2012, she was signed by South Korean record label YG Entertainment after she emerged as the best in an audition the Label hosted. Rosé moved to Korea that same year and was featured in Labelmate G-Dragon’s song titled Without You. After four years of intense music training under the Record label, she got signed to a girl music group called Blackpink.

Blackpink music group

Blackpink is a girl group formed by YG entertainment in 2016. Members of the group include Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé. The name Blackpink was chosen to contrast with the popular opinion of femininity associated with the color pink. On their first debut, their Record label, YG Entertainment, clarified that the name was chosen to express that the group reflects more than just appearance.

Blackpink rose to popularity in 2016 when they released their debut single album titled Square one. Surprisingly, the Square One album featured only two songs, “Whistle” and “Boombayah”, however, these songs, especially Boombayah topped Billboard’s world digital songs chart. With the release of the song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and the EP Square Up, Blackpink’s popularity skyrocketed, becoming the top-ranking  K-pop girl group on Billboard in 2018. Square Up reached No. 40 on the Billboard 200, and “Ddu-Du Ddu Du” reached No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Wonder Girls’ English version of “Nobody,” which peaked at No. 76 in 2009.

Blackpink has a huge fan base on social media platforms. Currently, most followed Blackpink members on Instagram can be ranked in descending order as follows, Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé. With Rosé being the least followed member in the group currently, she is making more waves than the rest of the pair at the moment, and her hit song “On the Ground” is the reason for it.
