Estelle California, a singer/songwriter and most of all an inspiration.  She was born in France. At the age of 5, she began playing the piano. She also studied the saxophone.

Furthermore, she was formally trained as a dancer in Opera at the age of 26. Her childhood was filled with discrimination, physical pain and mental pain which is a complete departure from the current life she is living.

She moved to Oakland, CA, in 2013, where she felt drawn to the respectful people and their way of life, little wonder she changed her artist name due to her love for the state of California. This she expressed in “California is the home, the family, the love I could have ever dream of having. I will be forever grateful I met you, California”. She realized the absence of prejudice and judgement.

Estelle is inspired by Nina Simone and the likes. Her new home also energizes her.  The type of music she writes today, is determined by her passion for music and from her regular visits to South Africa and her permanent move to the U.S. Her lyrics are messages of hope and gratitude. To know her story is to understand the inextinguishable fire burning in her music. She has moved from rock bottom, using the story of her life as her catalyst. Her vision and passion is recreated or given a new breathe in her debut EP, “My name is freedom”. A peek into her dream land, California.

Estelle’s new song is a beam of energy, a force and a movement against all forms of discrimination, oppression and abuse. It is spiritual. A calling she unwaveringly accepts, with warm hands. Estelle’s ingenuity helps her to balance the low ebbs of the bruised and branded past of the French soil, with the fast life, promises and skies of California. A rare ability she is able to fit into a wild melody. She is the voice of the oppressed. Her music serves as a beacon of hope. A shining light that encourages the oppressed or people who live in the dark. It helps people to overcome their fears in the face of adversity, to achieve their dreams.

In her own words “As my songs empowered me, I hope they will inspire those who feel oppressed to realize their true strengths, to find their voices and have faith in a better tomorrow.”
