About the song LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE
The English meaning of LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE is Last Night’s Night. The hit song La Noche de Anoche falls under the native Puerto Rican reggaeton genre that consists of sexual innuendos which have made the song popular among Spanish speaking population. Since its release on February 14th, 2021 the official video of the song La Noche de Anoche has received over 120million views on Youtube already. If you do not want your mind to get sexified, do not translate the Spanish lyrics to English, else you will get blown away. However the sexual content and the use of explicit words, I am still going to talk about the lyrics of the song but in a low tone.
The Lyrics
The track La Noche de Anoche, was written by Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio a.k.a Bad Bunny, Rosalia Vila Tobella a.k.a Rosalia, Marco Masís a.k.a Tainy and Chris Jeday. The latter two and Gaby music produced the track, a fourth single of the El Último Tour del Mundo album under Rimas Entertainment Records. With flirtatious metaphors laced within the lyrics, the song is a sensual, low-tempo reggaeton-pop track that talks about two individuals who have obsessive chemistry but cannot be with each other.
Highlights of the lyrics
Components of the song include an intro, a chorus, two solo verses (that were taken by the artists separately), and a hook. “I know that this will never happen again But if it happened again, I know it would be your weakness” was the opening of the song. However, the major talking points of the lyrics lie in the verses of the song.
Bad Bunny’s verse
Just like his name, Bad Bunny was never shy to use sexual innuendos in his bid to express his erotic desires to his partner, Rosalia. At the beginning of his verse, he mourned about the satisfaction he never got from his partner when he said “You left my body hot like hell, but you left my heart cold like winter, Dreaming that I sleep with you, Dime Papi, Dime Mami Who’ll erase that night?”.
He went further to talk about the glorious pleasures he got from erotically being with Rosalia and some of the words he used were, “We did positions I never imagined doing, You got wet so that I get baptized”. In the end, he sobbed that his relationship with his partner was never meant to be.
Rosalia’s verse
Rosalia didn’t shy away from the party, she equally made some strong erotic comments that matched Bad Bunny’s when she said “The lollipop is sweet, cotton candy And it’s the only one that touches my heart” and “he knows I do it like a legend”. The question is, what does lollipop signify in her lyrics? The lyrical content in her verse is more seductive, explicit, and sultry in a bid to reply to Bad Bunny. Just like Bad Bunny she also mourned about how their relationship was not meant to be when she said “I’ll go to Japan again Papi, what a shame, what a curse”.
The chorus
It shouldn’t be a surprise how the English translation of the chorus turned out to be since the artists didn’t hide their intent to voice out their erotic passion to each other. The lyrics of the chorus are shaded with a good choice of words to make them look decent to each other and the world. With the addition of those aforementioned tactics employed by the artists, the meaning or message of the chorus still could not be hidden. What do you think is the meaning of this lyric? “Because the night of last night Was something I could not explain We did it non stop You on top of me, me on top of you”
The Hook
Bad Bunny and Rosalia talked about their insecurities in the hook of the song. Here is the lyric of the hook of La Noche de Anoche; And it’s happened to me that they’ve given me hope, And it’s happened to me that they have abandoned me, And it’s happened to me that they’re not by my side, And it’s happened to me.
The artists
In April 2019, the artists met for the first time at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they took photographs that would later be used as a tool to promote the track. After that event, Bad Bunny went to see Rosalia perform live at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles, sparking reports of potential musical collaboration and a possible relationship between the artists, all of which were later denied.
Rosalia traveled to San Juan to work on her upcoming studio album in July 2020, when the travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic began to ease. The artists which she collaborated with over there were Marco Masís, Chris Jeday, Gaby Music, and Tego Calderón.
Within that time frame, Bad Bunny told Billboard that Rosalia and he had wanted to collaborate for a long time but that the right song or moment hadn’t presented itself. However, while in Puerto Rico, Chris Jeday one of the producers working with Rosalia on her album at the time sent him (Bad Bunny) a rhythmic base that he had been working on with Rosalia. To Bad Bunny, it seemed like the perfect opportunity which he has been waiting for has presented itself, but he decided to let it sit for a while.
According to Bad Bunny, he couldn’t stop singing or playing the song after a few days later. So he told Chris Jeday he’d give it a shot and see what happens. Before now, during the announcement of his second studio album YHLQMDLG in February 2020, Bad Bunny made a bold statement in the last song of the album that he would release another album nine months later and after that, he will retire for an unspecified period.
In November 2020, Bad Bunny shocked everyone by unveiling the release date, cover art, and tracklist for his third studio album El Último Tour del Mundo. Thereafter, “La Noche de Anoche,” which was released two days later became an immediate hit with fans.
