9. Daniel Abozen – Lass uns feier

Ladies and Gentlemen we would like to introduce Singer/Song Writer Daniel Abozen. Daniel is Half German, Half Ethiopian who sings mostly German RnB/soul. When you hear his voice, it will remind you of singers such as Tank and John Legend. It is electrifying and captivating. He granted us an exclusive interview.

Hey Daniel,Thank you for taking the time out to answer our questions. A: Thank you for having me. Q: Can You please tell our readers your real name as well as your stage name? A: Actually my stage name is my real name. Daniel Abozen. I used to call myself D-ABO when I started doing music but nowadays I use my real name. Q: How old are you? A: I’m 25 years old. Q: Where are you from? Where were you born? A: I was born in Hamburg Germany and that’s where I grew up and where I live now. My father is from Ethiopia my mother is German. Q: At What age did you start singing? A: I always used to sing. Even back in kindergarten it was already my passion. By the age of 18 I started singing seriously. I became part of Lukulule which is something like an organization for young people who like to sing and/or dance. With Lukulule I got on stage for the first time in a musical show. Q: What genre of music do you particularly love? Jazz? Hip-Hop? RnB? Gospel? Etc…… A: Definitely RnB. It’s just such a great type of music with so many different sounds. I grew up with Soul and Funk music. Artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin. A lot of this Motown stuff. Gospel also influenced me though. I also like Jazz, Blues and even some Pop or HipHop music. But RnB is definitely my favourite music. Q: Who is your favorite artist and why? A: I could name a lot of artists that influenced me but my favorite would have to be Brian McKnight. He is by far the best vocalist I’ve ever heard and I can’t help but be blown away every time I listen to his music. And he is also an amazing songwriter. Can you imagine he plays NINE instruments?! Q: What are your hobbies? A: I love basketball. I used to play in a team for a few years when I was younger. And then there are typical things like meeting friends, and going to the cinema. At least once a week. Q: Which musical instrument or instruments do you play? A: I feel a little ashamed right now because I don’t play any instruments. (laugh) I can play a few chords on the piano. I guess I am pretty privileged because I have three awesome musicians in my band who always play with me in concerts. Q: Where do you get your musical inspiration? A: From everywhere. Sometimes it’s a movie I just saw that inspires me to write a song. Sometimes it’s something that suddenly comes to my mind for no certain reason. Maybe even this interview is going to be an inspiration for a new song. (laugh) Could be everything. Q: Who is your mentor or hero? A: I had two vocal coaches who really helped me a lot in my musical education. Rene Hargens and Jesse Georgy. Two unbelievable singers. Q: Which do you prefer: Singing/performing or writing music? A: Wow, that’s a good question. I love both. I love being on stage and being in contact with the audience but I also love being creative and writing songs. I mean both things couldn’t exist without the other one. I have to write songs which I can perform on stage and I want to go on stage to present the songs I wrote. So I really don’t know. Q: Do you write for other artistes? And if yes, which artist have you written for? A: Actually yes. But I don’t think the artists I wrote for would like me to name them (laughing) Q: A lot of RnB/Soul artistes mix rapping or rhyming into their music, do you do the same?LOL A: No. I guess I’m pretty oldschool in this case. I always looked up to those singers with an unbelievable vocal ability. That’s what amazed me since I was a child. I can definitely relate more to musicians like Brian McKnight, Boyz II Men, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Sam Cooke than to artists like Drake and Chris Brown. Q: If you were given a chance, which Artist would you love to sing with? Or perform with? A: Because of the fact that he’s my favourite artist and greatest role model I would say Brian McKnight. But this might become pretty embarrassing for me. (laugh) Q: What would you like our readers to know about Daniel? Feel free to tell our readers more about yourself and your music. Things like your goals in life, and what your current projects are?. And also let them know where they can get your music or where you will be performing soon or regularly…… A: First of all they should know that I only write German songs. Most of my songs are really deep and thoughtful. A lot of them are about love and relationships. Some are about our society. Though there are some up tempo dance songs too of course. It’s my destination and I’m convinced that someday I will reach this goal. The more you give the more you will get. I’m just trying to stay focused on what I love and I’m passionate about. There aren’t specific current projects right now. I write new songs every day and I can imagine that I might publish another EP this year. But we will see about that. Actually I’m performing a lot. The next date is the 10th of August. I will play a charity concert for an organization in Columbia with three other acts at LOGO in Hamburg.
